Help is now available to help you find the best prices on prescription drugs
For anyone struggling to pay for prescription drugs, or for anyone unable to trudge to different stores to comparison shop to find the best prices, help is here. The New York State Department of Health (DOH) recently unveiled a new service to help New Yorkers find the best prices for their prescription drugs. Simply log on to:
http://www.rx.nyhealth.gov
.
The New York State Board of Pharmacy publishes an annual list of the 150 most frequently prescribed drugs, in the most common quantities. DOH collects retail price information on these drugs from pharmacies participating in the Medicaid program. This site allows you to search for a specific drug from the most frequently prescribed drug list and find the price at stores close to your home.
After logging on, select a prescription drug from the drop down list. You may then search by city, county or zip code. You will receive search results listing the stores selling that drug and the price at each store. It is important to note, DOH obtains retail prices on a weekly basis only from pharmacies participating in the Medicaid program. Other pharmacies in your area may offer different prices than the ones listed on the site. Since DOH does not verify the information, you may wish to call the store to verify the price of the drug, since drug prices can change frequently.
While this site does not contain every prescription drug available, and actual prices sometimes may vary from those listed on the website, this is a great starting place to help you find the best prices on your prescription drugs. Store addresses and phone numbers are listed, and a map and driving directions are available.
On this site, you will also find many links to help you find out more about prescription drugs and what help is available for those struggling to pay for them. I would urge you to visit this site before you buy your next prescription. I have placed a link to the site on my website:
